Rodney M. Lindsey

AIA, NCARB, LEED AP – President/Principal

Rod formed Lindsey Architecture in 2008 with the goal of doing work that would meet his own high standards of creative excellence, address the needs of his clients, and improve the communities in which they work and reside. Since that time, he has grown the company by taking on projects about which he is passionate, believing passion gives birth to inspired, innovative ideas. The creation of environments that enhance the quality of life is a tenet of Lindsey Architecture’s design philosophy.

Rod grew up in the Midwest. Following high school graduation, he worked in his family’s business until he decided to pursue a degree in architecture. While studying architecture, he started an internship in the corporate architecture department of Bass Pro Shops. This not only helped fund his education, he also gained valuable experience working on everything from new showrooms, Big Cedar Lodge (the company’s mountain retreat in the Ozarks), and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World.

With college degree in hand and fueled by his passion for architecture, Rod and his wife left the Midwest and relocated to North Carolina where he landed his first job with prominent Triad architect Mike Tye. Recognizing Rod’s innate talent, Mike mentored the young architect, giving him opportunities to take on a wide variety of assignments.

Rod was one of the first employees hired into a new firm formed by Mike in 1995. As the firm grew, Rod rose through the ranks to become Director of Architecture, serving as Architect of Record for numerous projects throughout the southeast in a range of industries, including pharmaceutical, tobacco, manufacturing and aviation.

Today, as president of Lindsey Architecture, he continues to seek new challenges and ways to impact the community he has come to love. A generalist by choice, he enjoys working with a variety of clients on a diverse array of projects. Each project receives his focused, personal attention and benefits from his experience in design services and ability to meet needs, schedules, and budgets. In his spare time, Rod spends time with his wife and two daughters at their favorite lake and is actively involved in his daughters’ extracurricular activities, horseback riding and soccer. He also works to impact the community by giving back however he can, both personally and professionally, by participating in local organizations and sponsoring various events through the company.

Rod received his Bachelor of Architecture from Drury University in Springfield, MO. He is a licensed and registered architect in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Virginia; a LEED Accredited Professional; and a member of the American Institute of Architects. He has served on the AIA North Carolina Board of Directors, is currently on the AIA NC Board of Directors, and was the AIA NC Piedmont Chapter President in 2009 and 2010. He is a member of the North Carolina Airports Association and the Summit Rotary Club, where he serves on the Board of Directors. 

Emily Hinton

AIA, NCARB – Principal/Project Manager 

An architect and project manager at Lindsey, Emily focuses on environmentally-responsible projects and projects that impact the community in a positive way. Emily’s favorite style of architecture is Scandinavian Modern, because she feels the forms are progressive, aesthetically clean and deceivingly simple. She also points out that, due to the extreme northern latitude, the buildings are strategically designed to allow natural light to permeate as far inside as possible, resulting in beautiful interior spaces. That, combined with the use of natural materials with varying textures, gives the forms a warm and inviting feel. In her own work, Emily strives to achieve the same thing, creating unique, well-designed buildings that are both functional for the client and good for the environment, since she believes that architects and builders are stewards of the earth and its resources. This perfectly complements the point of view we take at Lindsey, where our architects are encouraged to employ environmentally responsible ideas and applications in ways that benefit our clients.

Emily has focused on her career in architecture since high school. She saw it as the best way to combine her creative and artistic side – she plays piano and violin and enjoys painting – with her academic interests in more conceptual and analytic subjects like math. As a practicing architect, she has discovered that she enjoys watching a project evolve through the various phases of design and construction, offering her the opportunity to be involved in both creative design work and the more pragmatic tasks of coordinating and collaborating with engineers and contractors. But one of her favorite experiences as an architect is being able to visit a completed project and watch people interact with a space she has had a hand in designing.

Away from work, Emily’s passions are cooking (she enjoys coming up with new recipes and using her friends as guinea pigs), working on her latest household project, and exploring North Carolina, especially the state’s many new craft breweries and wineries.

Emily has a Bachelor of Architecture, with a minor in Urban Studies from the UNC Charlotte School of Architecture. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and an executive board member and past President of AIA’s Piedmont chapter. She is also a member of the Construction Professionals Network (CPN); serves on the Board of Directors for Greensboro Downtown Parks, Inc; and is a member of SynerG Young Professionals. Emily is National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB) certified.

Erin Woyahn

Accountant

Although not an architect or interior designer, Erin is a key part of the Lindsey Architecture team. As our accountant for the last several years, she’s handled the task of making sure our books are balanced and we’re in the black, where every business needs to be to grow and prosper.

Accounting wasn’t her first love, however. As a college undergraduate, Erin was torn between getting her degree in journalism or accounting. She chose journalism with a focus in advertising, but once out of school discovered that jobs in that arena weren’t easy to find. She decided at that point that accounting made more fiscal sense and returned to college to get a Masters in Accounting. We’re glad she did, because that eventually led her to join our team.

Erin and her husband have three children who keep her busy with their many activities. A Greensboro native, she earned her degree in Journalism and Masters in Accounting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Sam Franklin

AIA, NCARB - Senior Project Architect

Renovating and design are, you might say, in Sam's blood. By day, he serves as a senior project architect for Lindsey Architecture -- a 27-year career he has thoroughly enjoyed. By night, he spends his time renovating historic structures, such as an 1860s-era farmhouse and a 1977 Airstream, as well as traveling and taking road trips to quirky roadside tourist traps. His professional architectural experience spans most vertical markets, designing and managing projects of all scales and sizes for the public and private sector across the United States. He is passionate about capturing the aesthetic and culture of a client and centering his design around those nuances, while creating spaces that exceed expectations. He appreciates that each project is unique and enjoys the "puzzle" they form and discovering how the pieces fit together. Sam holds two degrees from NC State University -- Bachelor degrees in Architecture and Environmental Design in Architecture.

Elizabeth Aguilar

Interior Designer / Project Manager

Elizabeth is a project manager and interior designer, working across studios and market segments, and streamlines the firm’s efforts to be efficient in permit processes. She is motivated by problem-solving and creating solutions that seamlessly blend both beauty and practicality.

She received a Bachelor of Interior Design with a minor in art history at East Carolina University. She is passionate about historic preservation and upcycling. Living in a time where everything is so disposable, she loves taking something that was once special and making it unique and beautiful again.  

In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. She is a diehard college basketball fan who is RYT-200 licensed in yoga and teaches class once a week. She lives in Greensboro with her husband, two sons, cat, two dogs, and koi pond.

Eric Hilgendorf

Architectural Technician

Eric joined the Lindsey Architecture team as an Architectural Technician in January 2019 to aid in key projects such as Cook Out, the Greensboro Science Center Zoo Expansion, an expansion for Ziehl-Abegg, along with many other projects that keep him busy on AutoCAD much of the workday. Eric gets satisfaction from putting in hard work to then see the final result exceeding expectations of our clients. Although he didn’t always realize he would enjoy being an Architectural Technician while growing up, Eric wanted to find a job he was passionate about and eventually found himself pursuing his Associates Degree in Architecture and Design from Seminole Community College, graduating in 2004.

Eric’s love of cars brings him to Indianapolis Motor Speedway as often as he can afford, and when he is not busy being a great husband and father or binge-watching The Great British Baking Show. Eric moved to North Carolina in 2013, and currently lives in Summerfield, but growing up in Wisconsin gave him the passion to always root for his Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Milwaukee Bucks.

While he hopes to someday experience Oktoberfest in Germany, Eric is excited to bring projects to life for our clients as well as take on the responsibility to keep life in our office by watering the multiple plants growing in the Lindsey Architecture office.

Office Administrator

Barbara recently joined Lindsey Architecture as office administrator. Working as an Administrative Assistant for over 15 years, including for a midwest architecture firm, Barbara brings a wealth of experience to the team. Barbara has also been an antique dealer for 12 years and currently has a booth in an antique shop in Summerfield. In her free time, she enjoys treasure hunting for antiques, painting furniture, cooking, baking, and trying new recipes. Originally from Wheaton, Illinois, Barbara and her husband relocated to Stokesdale in 2017 to be closer to family. They have three children and three grandchildren who keep them very busy and enjoy exploring all that North Carolina has to offer.

Amanda Wyrick, AIA, NCARB

Project Architect

After completing her internship here at Lindsey Architecture in 2017, Amanda became a part of our full-time staff as an architectural designer in June 2018. In May 2024, she became a licensed, registered architect in the State of North Carolina and currently serves as a project architect for the firm. She earned a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in Business Administration from NC State. Amanda produces architectural designs, renderings, and construction documents for projects including: the Greensboro Science Center Revolution Ridge Zoo Expansion, Statesville Regional Airport's Terminal, and the Greensboro Rotary Carousel.

Childhood experiences influenced her toward a career in architecture, mainly art class in high school and observing residential construction throughout her youth. These expressions of design, and their compatible integration into one career, led her to pursue her degrees in architecture. Her biggest inspiration comes from being supported in a profession in which she and her father share an interest. While her father was unable to attend school for architecture, he started his own contracting business and supported her to become an architect, as well as the first person on his side of the family to graduate with a four-year degree. 

While Amanda enjoys what she does as a project architect, her hope of winning the lottery so she can purchase a large house to fill with cats and dogs to love and care for still stands. Besides purchasing lottery tickets, you can find Amanda spending her free time watching The 100 on Netflix and with her family in Stokesdale, NC. The Wyrick family has a close-knit bond and a custom of having a family dinner at least once a week, family golf outings on the weekends, and brother/sister basketball contests. If you ask Amanda what she would title a movie that was based on her life, she will proudly respond with “Amanda Kung Fu Panda.”
